Five-year-old Emilio Nares spent almost half of his life fighting
cancer. On October 15, 2000 his battle ended. Before he died, Emilio
captured the hearts of thousands of San Diegans, moving 1,400 people,
mostly Latino, to join the national bone marrow registry to help him
find a matching donor. Because so many people joined the marrow registry
in Emilio's name, scores of future patients with life-threatening
illnesses will have the chance for life.
